The 2014 Minnesota State Wake Surf Championship, originally scheduled for July 18–19, 2014, on Cook’s Bay of Lake Minnetonka, will be postponed to the later date – TBA.
Although we still agree that the special exemption given to us to hold the event was the right decision, we feel that holding the event this weekend may damage the reputation of our event, wake surfers, businesses associated with the event, and fans of the event. Our goal when we started planning this event was to bring an event which benefited Lake Minnetonka, its businesses, wake surfers, boaters, homeowners, and its fans. When asking for the special exemption, we thought this this event would be the catalyst that finally got Lake Minnetonka’s morale up after this horrible, rain-filled summer.
However, as we get closer to the scheduled start date we feel that this vision of the event will not come to what we expected when planning this event and while asking for the special wake exemption. It is disappointing to have to reschedule the event as we wanted to be a part of the Spirit of the Lakes Festival that is being held this weekend.
We still want to have a great day on Saturday, July 19th. We still want to support Lake Minnetonka, as we have always done and will do. We encourage you to show up by land or car to the Spirit of the Lakes Festival on Saturday – Cook’s Bay / Surfside Beach in Mound.
We appreciate the full support of our sponsors, participants, local authorities, and all parties interested in the health and well-being of Lake Minnetonka.
The details on the new dates will be released when determined. Thank you for your support! Please stay tuned to our website or our Facebook page for details.
